Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir
A highly experienced corporate leader with over 35 years in engineering, automotive,energy,education,technolog, and economic development. He has held top executive roles in major organisations such as PROTON, PETRONAS, and Perodua, and currently serves in key leadership positions across corporate and public institutions.
Career Highlights
- PROTON Holdings Berhad – Group Managing Director (2006–2012)
Led the financial turnaround and international expansion of PROTON through bold strategic initiatives
and the launch of key national car models. - PETRONAS – Vice President & MD of Petronas Dagangan (2017–2020)
Oversaw global downstream operations including retail fuel, LPG, and lubricants across more than 80
countries, managing RM65 billion in annual revenue. - Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) – Chairman of the Board (2018–2021)
Provided strategic direction to Malaysia’s largest public university with 35 campuses nationwide. - Dagang NeXchange Berhad (DNeX) – Executive Chairman (2020–2024)
Successfully grew the group’s revenue from RM280 million to RM1.3 billion through strategic mergers
and acquisitions. - PERODUA Perodua Auto Corporation Sdn Bhd (1999–2005)
Held senior roles including Deputy Managing Director, overseeing full plant operations, R&D, and new
